Spot-Reduction, Fact or Myth |
|
|
|
|
Thursday, 13 September 2007 |
For a while now people have been going back and forth about this subject. It was believed that we can "spot-reduce" fat. In other words, lose fat in a specific area by exercising that area. A lot of people still believe this is possible.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding this topic, but I would like to clear this up for you.
I often get asked the question: "If I work out my tummy muscles, will I lose weight around my
waist?"
I am sorry to break the news to you, but unfortunately, this is a misconception.
It is physiologically impossible to spot-reduce fat.
For instance, by working the abdominals really hard in the quest to flatten your tummy, you will definitely tone the muscles of your abdomen, but you will not necessarily lose fat in that specific area now that you are working those targeted muscles.
Fat is burned systematically across the body, according to patterns established by one's individual genetics. (I discussed the different body types in a previous letter to you) Targeting exercise to a specific area of the body will not make the fat disappear from that particular area.

I want to dedicate this article to one man who will be remembered forever. A man who knew the true meaning of Powerful Presence and living with Total Passion and Commitment to his craft. A man who had Super Star Status in the Opera as well as the Pop music world!
A man who in his career of almost 50 years as a singer and a devoted musician managed to capture the hearts and imaginations of so many.
Luciano Pavarotti! He sadly passed away last Thursday. I felt a the pang in my heart when I heard the news. Anyone who has ever listened to the voice of Pavarotti knows that it resonates deep inside... with me it does...
Garin (my husband) told me of the unbelievably Powerful and Magnetic Presence Pavarotti radiated when he came to give a Master Class at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where Garin was studying at the time.
He told me that on stage that day, Pavarotti was not an overbearing and boisterous man, he did not feel the need to prove himself as a master, but in stead had a calm and all encompassing Confidence and Presence that captured the attention and wonder of everyone he came in contact with.
This was evident when he was on stage - a big man he was with a big, magically enchanting voice, but more than that - here was a man who had true Pizzazz!
Let's face it - there are many magnificent voices out there, voices that might never be heard... because just having a great voice is not enough!
It was said about Pavarotti that "He was more than just a voice - He had Charisma. There are plenty of good singers, but he had something more!"
Pavarotti also started from humble beginnings. Not many people know that he began as a teacher, and had failed as a salesman long before he found his calling as a singer.
He had to work his way through his insecurities and cultivate the now well-known presence and fame of a world-class performer! It didn't just come naturally to him... he wasn't born with this charm and Powerful Presence. He made effort - he worked at it... just like everybody needs to work at it!
It is a total misconception that anyone who becomes famous did so overnight... virtually anyone who is known for their talents, poise and charisma had to put some amount of effort into developing their image - the Powerful and Magnetic image that allows them to stand out above the crowd.
Luciano Pavarotti lived with Passion, Commitment and Drive. His sincerity and passion as a man shone through when he was on stage. But not only on stage - it was so clear in his voice... his passion, drive and charisma can clearly be heard in his voice when he sang... and
many say even when he spoke.
You may say... but I am not a singer, or an actor, or an acrobat or dancer - but no matter what it is... you have your own special talents. You just need to come out and realize it - live your life with passion and drive!
There is a Pavarotti in you too... someone who has much to offer the world if only you have the courage to go after it. If you have the courage to get out there with the Powerful Presence that resides within you.
When it comes to standing out, to being remembered, to making a lasting impression - you need more than just a great voice or a pretty face or the body of a model or movie star... you can have all those things and still not have the Pizzazz Factor. You need that "something extra", that charisma and Magnetic Presence.
With the Pizzazz Factor I show you how to achieve this... you do not necessarily need to be born with it. A Powerful presence is not a talent, but a skill - a skill that can be acquired.
With some knowledge and awareness you can also have what it takes to be a charismatic and
magnetic person!
Pavarotti knew the art of Magnetic Presence, he knew that it took more than just talent to be a
star... to be adored and admired.... and he was!
What an amazing Voice, what an amazing Talent, What an amazing Man!
Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007)
Kind Regards
Vanessa Bader
P.S. Luciano Pavarotti will be missed by many, but his Passion and Charisma will live on in the music! http://PizzazzFactor.com

It is known that we grow taller until we reach a certain age, but then it seems that after that, when we hit another later age, we start shrinking again. Have you noticed that?
Incidentally, the people that are sailing with us this cruise happens to be the latter - The age group on this cruise is a little older, and I see their hunched over postures everywhere, making them look small and frail.
Have you noticed that as people get older they seem to be shrinking... but are they really?
It is a fact that specially with women, Osteoporosis is a common problem. The bone density decreases because of hormonal imbalances and the risk of easily breaking bones increase. It is also quite often noticeable in the spine as they start to get that hunched over look in the upper back as the bones weaken.
But that aside - most people can absolutely prevent this hunched over posture from happening, they can keep looking tall and younger as they grow older by being mindful of good posture. |

Why do you exercise? We all have slightly different reasons why we do exercise. It might be that you want to lose weight, or maybe you need to strengthen your body for a specific activity, or you want to simply feel healthier.
Look and Feel Heathy
But what about keeping your body mobile and functional. To me that should be your first point of criteria for any workout. You want to prepare your body for everyday life.
You want to be able to perform the tasks that you have to do everyday with the most efficiency and ease as possible. You want to be able to easily lift your groceries into the trunk of your car.
You want to be able to pick up your children with ease and without injuring yourself. When you need to take that box of books off the top shelf in your study you want to know that you can do it with total confidence - not fear that you might just throw your back out or dislocate a shoulder.
If you are an athlete, or golfer, or tennis player, maybe you are a dancer or a construction worker.... what ever it is you do for a living, you want to make sure that whatever supplemental exercise you do, you want it to compliment your life. You want it to prepare you for those activities that make up your everyday life.
The Hot Burning Body Workout was designed to not only give you the benefits of better aesthetics and calorie burning properties, but also to improve your quality and efficiency of movement so your body can move functionally and effortlessly throughout every day, no matter what your major activities are.
You will gain flexibility, mobility, strength, stability and coordination - all in a very functional and efficient way.
Every workout has its purpose, but if you want to get it all in one in the shortest time possible - the Hot Burning Body System is perfect for you!
Warm Regards
Vanessa Bader
P.S. A mobile, flexible and strong body is what is going to keep you feeling younger
and looking younger for much longer!

I still remember the smell of that audition room… musty and slightly sweet. It feels like it was yesterday when I went for my first professional audition. The producer had flown out here to the tip of Africa all the way from the United States to come and find the right performers to play the parts in what was going to be the biggest production of the year.
This was huge – not something that happened very often so you can be sure that every performer in South Africa was there and wanted to be part of this show.
I was still green, straight out of College. As a matter of fact, I was still busy with my finals. I can remember as clear as day how emotional and nervous I was – this was going to be my big break.
But how do I sell myself to these judges? There were almost 400 seasoned professionals auditioning and only a hand full of parts for the taking. How do I get them to notice me?... |

Dear Friend
Having the Pizzazz Factor is helpful in so many
different scenarios. Like I said before, no one
needs to be "on" twenty four hours a day but it
sure is great when you know you can turn it on
whenever you need it!
Here is some great news from a Pizzazz Factor
faithful who got fantastic results when she turned
on her Pizzazz when she gave her first speech!
Here is what she wrote:
Vanessa,
I have been so busy with school but wanted to take a
moment and send some good news. I am taking a
speech class as it is a requirement (for nursing!) and
today I gave my first speech. I was nervous, but
prepared.
The Pizzazz Factor did not fail me! From the body
language portion of your CD's, I have learned
a tremendous amount of invaluable skills in even the
simplest presentation from you and Garin (I really love
that CD) and today, it served me well! I made a 100
on my speech, and believe me, this grade is very
important to me insofar as my future studies. (I need
an A badly!) It was amazing how much better I was
prepared at giving a simple speech than I would have
been before learning so much from you in the
Pizzazz Factor. There is no doubt in my mind my
posture and poise had an impact on my audience, and
it was remarkable.
I give the Pizzazz Factor an A+!!
Love,
Cynthia Daniel
Midland, Texas
That is so wonderful Cynthia, you can be very proud
of yourself. You highlighted a very important point -
you were well prepared. I am so glad the Pizzazz
Factor helped you so much, and no doubt helped
you feel prepared for your speech, but in the end
it is you who applied all you have learnt in the
Pizzazz factor.

I think it is wonderful! Congratulations!
Kind regards
Vanessa Bader
P.S. If you don't have the Pizzazz Factor yet and
you want to make a great impression like Cynthia did,
now is the time to get it! It is simple - just go to:

P.S. Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know
that I am so excited about the Hot Burning Body
Workout - It is selling like sweet cakes, even better
than I imagined and I have been getting great results
from doing the workout myself -
it is awesome! Kicks my butt every time, haha!

Workout Fit for a Celebrity! |
|
|
|
|
Monday, 27 August 2007 |
I just got back from the gym and managed to
turn a good friend and celebrity Jim Labriola
on to my and my husband's latest favorite workout.
You might remember Jim as "Bennie" from the
TV series "Home Improvement". He is an
extremely talented and very funny comedian.
My husband and I trained him tonight and he
is completely taken by this workout we did.
He said that he can't see himself ever doing
anything else again and can't wait to get back
into the gym tomorrow to learn and do more
of this fun and invigorating workout.
As you know by now, I like to keep my workouts
interesting by doing all different kinds of exercise.
So I would like to introduce to you - Kettlebells.
As a matter of fact, Jim already went on line to
order his own set of Kettlebells and the first chance
Garin and I got, we went out in Boston to buy one
for each of us and brought it on to the ship with us.
As if we don't have enough luggage already, but
we got here and realized that we cannot live without
our kettlebells - ha!

What an amazingly fun workout. Garin and I are
qualified instructors in the method! We have been
benefiting from this method for a long time now
and I am bursting at the seams to share this
unbelievable workout with you.
I like to stay on the cutting edge of what is new,
and even though kettlebells are not by any means
new, it has certainly taken the United States by
storm in the last few years and is now considered
the latest craze - and rightly so! ......

Six Secrets to Great First Impressions |
|
|
|
|
Friday, 24 August 2007 |
By Vanessa Bader
Why is it that when certain people walk into a room you can’t help but notice them right away? You just have to look … and stare. Is it his good looks or his Armani suit? Maybe it was her Prada shoes or her Versace dress.
I guarantee you it has very little to do with the clothes he is wearing or her hairstyle…
We get brainwashed into believing that these people are just born like that – with that stunning flair and magnetic presence. That “special something” that sets them apart from the rest. That “It” factor that is the illusive something we can’t quite put our finger on. Most celebrities have it; most successful people have it… that certain kind of Pizzazz.
The thing is that you also have the ability to be noticed and to make astonishing first impressions… regardless of the shape of your body or how expensive your outfit was.
Don’t think you need to be born with it or that it is only reserved for the rich and the famous. Believe me… the majority of people that has this “presence” is very aware of it and constantly works at it.
We are vibrational beings and we transmit waves of energy all the time. Some of us project energy at higher frequencies than others. These are the vibrations that people pick up and notice about you within the first few moments of meeting you. Before you have even had an opportunity to say something, the chances are good that the other person already made some sort of assessment about you. He or she already got a first impression within seconds of seeing you.
You have total control over the impressions you make.
There are a few small secrets to having this presence, this pizzazz!
Awareness
Self-awareness of the way you present yourself is the first and the most important secret to taking the steps towards making great first impressions and being sure you linger in their minds long after you left. An acute awareness of your posture and your body language is what is going to make all the difference.
Posture
Great posture goes a long way. Your posture; the way you hold your body can dictate how you are going to be perceived by others. It is true that our posture is often influenced by our emotions. In other words, if you are feeling intimidated or shy, you might drop your chin, hunch your shoulders forward and avoid eye contact. This would be a dead giveaway that you are not feeling comfortable and chances are that others will feel just as uncomfortable in your presence.
The posture of a self-confident, poised person is upright and proud, chin lifted, chest open and quite often a smile. This is the person that is going to get noticed right away.
The truth is that even when you are feeling slightly intimidated, if you can master the posture of someone who is feeling self-assured and in control, you can use this posture and you will immediately start looking and feeling more confident. In other words… you can affect your mood or emotions by simply changing your posture.
Spend a few minutes in front of the mirror and make yourself aware of what this great, self-confident posture looks and feels like.
Intention
Once you are aware that you have the power to use your posture to position yourself as a more self-confident person, all you need is to actually have the intention for others to see you that way. You have to make a decision that you want to make an impressive entrance and leave everyone wondering, “who is this person?” Once you have the intention, your body will find it easy to turn on that unmistakable poise, presence and posture that you practiced in front of the mirror before.
Graciousness
Life has become a rat race and we get caught up in our own heads not paying much attention to those people around us. One of the greatest secrets to being remembered in a positive light is to be gracious. We so often get into the habit of asking, “how are you?” but how often do we pay attention to the answer?
How often do you pay someone a compliment or just simply extend a friendly smile?
By being sincerely interested in the other person, by greeting and smiling in a genuinely friendly way… you can be sure to get noticed and remembered.
Eye contact
How often have you gone on a date or sat in a meeting where you felt like you were not included in the conversation… or the other person is simply distracted and not interested.
By maintaining eye contact with the person you are conversing with, you give them the feeling that you are totally engaged and interested. They will immediately feel important and included.
If you are talking to a group, make sure to make eye contact with every single person there if possible, because you will make them feel included and significant.
This also establishes that you are confident and in control of the conversation.
Sincerity
Now remember, you can do all this – have the self-awareness, the great posture, the right intention, be gracious and maintain eye contact, but if there is no real sincerity behind your actions… people will look right through you.
But by practicing these principals, by utilizing these few guidelines, you will definitely be noticed and remembered. It doesn’t cost anything and once you feel comfortable and confident in your own skin with your new posture, poise and presence you will be remembered as someone with that “special something” – Pizzazz!
