Tonight I was watching my all time favorite TV show again... "So you think you can Dance". Being a dancer myself I really have so much respect for the talent on that show... dancers and choreographers alike.

Tonight there were quite a few exceptional performances and some very profound comments. If you watched the show you will know what I mean... and you will probably hear me talk more about that in the near future because to me dance is such a great metaphor for life... and most certainly have a lot of similarities to your Pizzazz...

This had me thinking about the Pizzazz Factor. Those dancers on that stage are being asked to do so much more than dancing. They need to be great technicians of course, but above and beyond that they need to tell a story, convey a message and do it with conviction and passion. They have to do it with strength and trust... Even when they are out of their element - dancing a style that they are not familiar with, they have to do it with ease and make it look like they are completely comfortable in that "role".

This is expected from each and every performer on that stage. They need to so eloquently express themselves with their bodies through movement... without saying a word.



Your Pizzazz Factor is exactly like that. You need to know basics, just like a dancer needs to know how to turn and leap and point their toes, but your Pizzazz Factor is so much more than that.

Knowing how to walk, stand, sit, talk and use your body language is not what is going to give you that magnetic presence and unmistakable radiance... it is so much more than that. You need to convey your own story and do it with passion. Today is Independence Day here in the United States. So to everyone in America - Happy 4th of July

Now how about claiming independence for yourself? Let us look at what the word independence really means according to the dictionary...

Being independent means freedom from the control, influence, support, aid, or the like, of others. Now how about finding that freedom and independence regarding food, and taking charge of your body, your health and your own life!

Every day, each and every one of us live through different circumstances, scenario's and emotions. It is almost impossible to always be in a great mood and to feel on top of the world.

We all have days when we feel hopeless or helpless, when life does not exactly deal us the hand we want.



I always try to share with you messages that are optimistic and uplifting, and yes, I am very fortunate that life has been very kind to me, but even I have those days, where everything is not quite the way I want it and things seem to be spinning out of control.

This is part of life, right?

Those are the days where you need to be brave, when you need to lift up your chin, pull back your shoulders, and remind yourself that like everything, this too shall pass. You need to remember that in each situation or moment like this there is always something to be gained... some lesson to learn, some message to help you grow.

Whatever confusion, pain or heartache, or maybe just pure hopelessness you are feeling in that moment or on that day will fade into the background if you can just hang in there. Tomorrow is always a new day with new possibilities, no matter how dreary things seem in the moment you are in.

In moments or on days like those, I always remind myself of a little song that I love. It is childlike and sweet but it carries a very profound message. The song is "Tomorrow" from the musical "Annie"... and of course I remember my Pizzazz Factor.

You don't always have to wait 'till tomorrow for the sun to come out... you can take action right away...

Tonight on television, "America's Got Talent" there were three very inspiring stories that teach us all about different facts of powerful strength like fearless strength.

I'll tell you about them in three different emails as they are great stories and some powerful lessons are within these stories.

First, there was a little 4 year old girl that sang, "Somewhere Out There". She was a little angel that spoke with that childlike lisp we all have when we're that age and she walked fearlessly out onto a stage of thousands seemingly oblivious to the fact that there were millions behind the television cameras as well going to watch her sing.

She walked with unwavering determination out onto the stage and sang all the words without missing a single one - and on pitch! Two impressive feats for even grownups and some professionals.

There wasn't an ounce of fear in her little voice as she communicated to the judges with a casualness of a pro. She projected complete confidence and won the crowd and judges over completely getting all thumbs up and a cheering audience. She's on to Vegas now.

As children most of us are born with an innate fearlessness. Sadly, we listen to people who tell us we can't and then as adults we continue the cycle by telling ourselves we're not worthy and compare ourselves to others we have no business comparing ourselves to.

Children are sponges because they "don't know any better". It's a beautiful thing and how great would that be if we continued that into our teenage years and onto adulthood. "Not knowing any better", is a good thing to remind ourselves of and to go back to the days when we were fearless in our hearts and minds.

My own parents had me performing for huge crowds when I was 3 years old. By the time I was 5 I performed 5 instruments, sang, and tap danced on the Regis Philbin show. Yes, I was fearless when I was young and picked things up like a sponge as most children do. And I was happy that my parents brought me up to be fearless - even though I sometimes still have to kick myself in the arse for my own limiting beliefs.

Being ignorant of fear is a good thing sometimes. It's one of the great gifts of being young. But as adults we also need to remind ourselves to practice fearlessness as it can also bring great rewards along with talents and strengths you never knew existed.

If you remember that child inside, you don't care what others think - you're not afraid of bruising your ego because you're just too busy having fun having fun. (Yes, there's a reason for saying it twice) :) This in itself will help build your self-confidence almost without trying.



Sometimes you might try not adding up the poundages in the gym in your mind or the reps. Just keep stacking plates on and ignore what you did yesterday, what others can do, what other might think if you fail. Stop the stupid peanut gallery adult mind chatter.

Activate the "I can do it" tape instead of "that's 20 pounds more than my best" or "5 more reps than my previous". Remember words like the great Reg Park who said that he never thought about the weight. His mind moved the weight.

We are beings of creative energy. Get busy being creative in building yourself up instead of creatively limiting yourself with "clever" debilitating thoughts. This little girl's face lit up when the judges and crowd went wild. But it was already lit up when she walked out.

There's a lesson just in that. When your fearless, your entire body will exude joy because you're not waiting for approval and you're not limiting your own innate strengths.

Expressing fearlessness and joy in what we do gives you strength and power that will light up you and everyone around you because you're expressing the pureness of your innate raw energy without limitation.

Set your mind into creative high gear to seek possibilities in all you do - Today.

Anything that anyone ever created started with a single thought.  A single thought is the origin of everything that is.

So is your self-image.  You are the creator of your own self image.  You have the power to change it and shape it whichever way you like.  But it has to start with thought, with a goal, with a vivid picture.

We tend to be so focused on those things about ourselves that we do not like... it is easy to look in the mirror and point out your own flaws... but if those are all you see, if your imperfections are the only things you can see in the mirror, then how can you expect others not to see them?





In stead, you should be actively creating your own positive self-image by looking for the beauty in you, and you have to be clear in your mind about what it is you want others to see when they look at you.

Sometimes those very imperfections that you see, are the beauty of you... but because you view them as imperfections, that is exactly what you allow others to see.

Do yourself a favor right now. Before you continue reading, get a pen and paper ready.  If you have some of those little index cards - those work very well, if not, any paper will do.

How to Prevent Knee Pain PDF Print E-mail

Knee pain is one of the most common complaints I get from prospective clients.  I encounter more and more people who complain of some kind of knee pain or even some more serious injuries.

The secret to protecting your knees against injury and pain is alignment.



It is very important to make sure your leg is well aligned from the hip joint all the way to the ankle. Always imagine a straight line from the middle of the hip bone through the center of the patella all the way to the middle toe.

The most common mistake is to let your knees knock inwards when you bend them.  That means that you are not engaging your abductors (Outer thigh muscles).  That is when you will more than likely start feeling pain on the inside of the knee.

You want to make sure that the center of your kneecap is always directly over your middle toe when you bend your knees.  So if your feet are parallel with the toes facing straight forward, so should your knee, and the same goes if your feet are turned out - then your legs should be turned out at the same angle as your feet.

The best way to determine whether your alignment is correct, is to actually do your squats and lunges in front of a mirror.  Pay attention to make sure the center of your knees are facing in the same direction as your middle toes.

The rule is - knees over middle toes!

If you can always make sure that you adhere to this rule, then chances of injury are very slim, and you are much less likely to experience any kind of discomfort or pain in your knees during physical activity.

Weight loss is all about boosting your metabolism.

If your metabolism is standing still then your body is not burning calories, and when you are not burning calories, well, then you are not burning fat.

In order to get your metabolism burning faster and hotter there are three things that are very important:

First thing: It is very important that you are not scared to eat.... I come across so many people that think they need to starve their bodies in order to reach their goal weight.  That is the worst thing you can do.

You need to fuel your engine, but with high octane gas. Lots of fruits and veggies and of course plenty of lean protein like lean, skinless chicken or turkey breast, fish and egg whites.

 

Secondly, you have to eat regularly.  You need to get your body into a routine.  You should never go longer that four hours without feeding your metabolism... your body.  Ideally you will eat a small meal every three hours.

Last but not least, you need to do at least 20 minutes of high intensity exercise every day.  And by that I don't mean walking... I mean something that makes you sweat, like my Hot Burning Body workout.

You need to do exercise that gets your heart rate up and challenges the muscles in your body.  That way you can burn the most amount of calories in the shortest amount of time and you are training your metabolism to burn off those calories and a fierce rate!

So there it is.  Only three very simple things you need to do, and you are on your way to success with a red-hot burning metabolism and a Hot Burning Body!

Well, while that is true, dressing in the correct way can make a huge difference to the way you are perceived by other people. It can also change the way you feel and act - and that is what I am getting at.

Dress for Success



Last night was formal night here on the ship. Well, I couldn't believe my eyes. Those same passengers I see dragging their feet all day, schlepping around like they couldn't care less about their appearance, looked like complete strangers.

Each and every one of them looked like a star! And more importantly, they were acting in a totally different way. All of the men were walking around looking dapper and confident, and the ladies beautiful and graceful.

So even though the clothes do not make the man or the woman, it can surely make you act and feel different.
